Chow Chow Kootu Recipe is one of the Mildly spiced kootu recipe.It goes well with hot white rice or as a side dish with rasam rice.Chow Chow kootu is made with onion,coconut paste with green chilies and cumin seeds.Red Chilies are added for spice level.This is one of the main recipe in south indian thali,served in hotel.

Ingredients:

Chow Chow-1 Cup Chopped
Moong dal-1/4 cup Cooked
Shallots-7 Slitted
Red Chili-2
Green Chili-1
Curry Leaves-1 Sprig
Coriander Leaves-1 tsp
Coconut grated/Chopped-1/4 Cup
Cumin Seeds-1 tsp
Oil-1 tsp
Mustard Seeds,Urad dal and Chana dal-1 tsp
Cumin Seeds-1 tsp
Turmeric Powder-1/4 tsp
Salt as needed
 

Method:

Heat a kadai and add oil.once the oil is hot add mustard seeds,urad dal and chana dal.After it  splutter add Cumin seeds.
 
Add Shallots,red chilies,curry leaves and coriander leaves.once it becomes soft add chopped chow chow,salt and turmeric powder.you can also cook chow chow in pressure cooker and cook till it becomes soft and add to kadai.
 
now add cooked moong dal and boil till chow chow becomes soft and mushy.In a blender add coconut,cumin seeds and green chilies and blend into smooth paste.
 
Add the blended paste to kadai and boil for 3 to 5 Mins and serve.

1.Heat a Kadai and add Oil.
 
 
 

2.Now add Mustard seeds,Urad dal and Chana dal.

 
 

3.Once it Splutters add 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds.

 
 

4.Further add Shallots, Red Chili, Curry Leaves and Coriander Leaves and Cook till it becomes soft.

 

 

 

5.Now add Chow Chow, needed Salt and Turmeric Powder and Cook for 5 mins in medium flame.

 
 
 

6.Next add Cooked Moong dal and 1 Cup water and boil for 5 mins.

 
 

7.In a blender add Coconut,1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds and blend into smooth paste with needed water.

 
 

8.Add the paste to kadai and boil for 3 to 5 Mins.
