Kollu Soup/How to make Kollu Rasam

Kollu/Horsegram is one of the lentils which has plenty of health benefits.Including Horse gram in your diet helps to lose weight.With Horse gram/kollu we can make Rasam,Soup,Chutney,Salad and idly.Kollu increases metabolism and cleanses blood.

Tomato Rasam

Parupu Rasam

Ingredients

Kollu/Horsegram-1/2 Cup

Water-2 Cups

Tomato-1 Small size Sliced

Garlic Cloves-6 to 7 Crushed

Tamarind-1 small gooseberry size

Red Chili-2

Turmeric Powder-1/4 tsp

Cumin and Peppercorns Powder-1 tsp

Curry Leaves-1 Sprig

Coriander Leaves-2 tbsp Chopped

Asafoetida/Hing Powder-1/4 tsp

Salt to taste

Oil-1 tbsp

Vadagam/Sun dried Onion-1 tsp(optional)

Step by Step Photo Recipe

1.Add Sliced Tomato and Crushed Garlic Cloves in a bowl.

2.Squeeze it with hands.

3.Soak Tamarind In Water and extract pulp.

4.Add the Tamarind Pulp to the bowl.

5.Then add Red Chilies and Curry Leaves.

6.Further add Salt.

7.Then add Turmeric Powder.

8.Now add Asafoetida/hing Powder.

9.Add Kollu/Horsegram in a pressure cooker.

10.Then add 2 Cups water and pressure cook till becomes soft.

11.Once done and pressure gets released extract the water from kollu.

12.Now add the extracted kollu water in a bowl.

13.Add 1tsp Cumin and peppercorn Powder.

14.Then add 1 Cup water.

15.Heat a kadai and add 1 tbsp Oil.

16.Add Vadagam.(you can also skip this)

17.After a min add the water mixture to the kadai.

18.Cook in Medium flame.

19.Once it starts to boil switch off the flame.

20.Serve hot with hot Rice or you can have as a soup.

Notes

1.In this recipe i used cumin and pepper powder,if not available you can replace by adding 1/2 tsp Cumin and 1/1 tsp Pepper and blend in a blender and use.

2.Feel Free to add extra red chilies.
